A fire started in a 100 year old abandoned historic building at 4 am and rapidly spread to all floors. The building, which stood on the edge of Ryerson University, partially collapsed on April 2010 and has been abounded since then. Over 125 firefighters worked on the scene to gain control over the growing blazes. The police blocked the surrounding area in a fear that the fire will spread to near by buildings. Ryerson University had to shut its doors and to cancel all classes in the campus. Luckily the weather conditions weren’t bad and later that day, firefighters managed to gain control of the fire.

Risk Management Perspective:

Consider the risk of fire:

  • It can completely destroy the business facility and it can interrupt the organization activities
  • It can be initiated externally
  • Even if your facility is not at risk, you may need to activate a protocol when the fire is "next door"
